This is something a colleague of my husband suggested. I thought I’d give it a go. In a nutshell, it says it “100% automatically” removes backgrounds from photos, so you can then play around with the end result and insert your own new background.
I’m not sure if this is a tool that Photoshop or Lightroom have built in, but as I don’t have any post processing tools, this seemed like something fun to try.
The website is called: https://www.remove.bg/
I Googled “background photo remover” but the website didn’t appear in the first page of the search, so I’m not sure how popular it is. I did also read the terms, just to be sure. On the whole, if you’re a private individual not using the images for commercial purposes and not misusing the site, you should be fine.
So, first step…find a photo. My photos all involve a toddler, so I had little options but to use this Christmas shot.
Step 1 – select a photo. Already failed, as the file size limit is 8MB. I’ll try again with a lower resolution photo.
Step 2 – take note that it said “portrait”…meaning it needs a face! Clever software clearly identified the picture below was not a face.

Step 3 – select photo with face and press download. In seconds it removes the background. If you’re happy, you can then download the image to use yourself.
I think the speed of this tool is fab. It struggled with pictures containing objects (like bikes, prams, toys…), but it does specifically say for portrait shots. I look forward to trying this out more! Here are the results. Sorry for the blurred face – just protecting my little person’s identity.

Hope you have a go too.
